How a PLC Status Screen Makes Lift Installation and Troubleshooting Easier

Modern lifting equipment relies heavily on PLC control systems. Home lifts, scissor lifts, freight elevators, and many other machines use PLCs to manage sensors, motors, safety devices, and operating sequences.

Inside every PLC program, there are numerous input points (X) and output points (Y). These addresses are extremely important to the control logic, but for installers and maintenance personnel, they often create a challenge.

For example, an input called X12 or an output called Y07 may only have meaning inside the original PLC program. Without program documentation, it can be difficult to determine whether the signal represents a door switch, an upper limit sensor, a motor contactor, or another device.

Converting PLC Signals into Clear Information

To solve this problem, we have developed a dedicated HMI monitoring screen that communicates directly with the PLC and displays all important signals in plain language.

Instead of showing only PLC addresses such as:

  • X0

  • X1

  • Y5

  • Y8

The screen displays actual descriptions, such as:

  • Upper Limit Switch

  • Floor Limit Switch

  • Door Signal

  • Motor Running

At the same time, every signal status is updated in real time and remains synchronized with the PLC.

This allows users to immediately understand what the machine is doing without opening the PLC program.

Real-Time Machine Monitoring

The status screen allows operators, installers, and maintenance personnel to monitor:

  • Lift position information

  • Motor operating status

  • Sensor conditions

  • Safety device signals

When troubleshooting, technicians can quickly determine whether a sensor has been activated, whether an output signal has been sent, or whether a safety condition is preventing operation.

This greatly reduces diagnostic time.

Why We Chose Text Instead of Complex Graphics

Originally, we considered designing a fully graphical user interface with animated components and icons.

However, after evaluating actual maintenance requirements, we discovered that text-based information is far more useful during installation and troubleshooting.

Displaying each signal directly with:

  • A descriptive name

  • ON/OFF status indication

  • Real-time PLC synchronization

allows technicians to immediately identify the operating condition of every input and output.

This approach eliminates guesswork and makes maintenance easier for both experienced engineers and end users.
